The Local History Society for Purley on Thames
Directory & Gazeteer entries
At one time a great deal of information was published about towns and villages in the form of directories or gazeteers. Nowadays this is all replaced by the internet.
Project Purley has transcribed many of these and turned them into articles for their website. Where a directory has had several editions with differing descriptions these are all contained in the same sub-section
Many items contain errors and inaccuracies, often passed from one article to another. Notes are provided to indicate some of these errors, however the original text is always preserved. The articles
